Explanation

How Universal converter works

Equivalent physical quantities are converted through a shared base unit. Temperature needs a factor and offset; consumption and pace can use inverse relationships.

Only units of the same physical quantity are directly comparable. Additional material properties are requested when needed.

Practice

Practical examples

For illustration only – your own calculation is what counts.

Example: 1 km → 0.6213711922 mi

Length. Display and calculation are separate. Decimal places change the display rather than intermediate calculations. Approximate results are labelled.

Result: 1 km = 0.6213711922 mi

Example: 2 km → 1.242742384 mi

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What can the universal converter convert?

Physical quantities from length to catalytic activity, decimal and binary data, kitchen measures and ingredients, shoe and clothing sizes, numeral systems.

Why does the converter ask for context?

Regional standards are separate. Mass and volume need an ingredient or density, pixels need pixel density, and sizes need the appropriate men’s/women’s and clothing system.

How reliable are size conversions?

Shoe and clothing sizes are guidance values. Manufacturers, fit and sizing tables may differ.

How does rounding work?

Display and calculation are separate. Decimal places change the display rather than intermediate calculations. Approximate results are labelled.

How do decimal and binary data prefixes differ?

Decimal and binary prefixes use different bases. KB and KiB therefore represent different data quantities.

Why does pixel conversion need pixel density?

Pixels have no fixed physical length. Converting pixels to millimetres or centimetres requires PPI/DPI.

Limits

Limitations

  • Only units of the same physical quantity are directly comparable. Additional material properties are requested when needed.
  • Display and calculation are separate. Decimal places change the display rather than intermediate calculations. Approximate results are labelled.
