Explanation

How Overtime Calculator works

The calculator compares recorded net working time with target time or financially values stated positive overtime. It does not decide legality or entitlement.

Time and compensation model

ZeitsaldoSaldo = Istzeit − Sollzeit − bereits ausgeglichen

Practice

Practical examples

Positive hours over five days

Eight target hours per day and 42 actual hours over five days produce two positive hours.

Result: 42:00 − 40:00 = +2:00 hours.

Compensation with contractual premium

Ten overtime hours, EUR 20 hourly wage and a contractual 25 per cent premium.

Result: Base pay EUR 200, premium EUR 50, total EUR 250.

Notes

Common mistakes

  • Counting breaks as work

Unpaid breaks otherwise inflate actual time.

Use net working time that is actually payable.

  • Assuming a premium automatically

A blanket premium does not apply to every employment relationship.

Enter only a premium provided by the governing agreement.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is overtime always payable?

No. Payment or time off depends especially on the employment contract, collective agreement, works agreement and the individual circumstances.

Is there a general statutory overtime premium?

The calculator assumes no blanket statutory premium. The percentage is a contractual input; separate rules may create special premiums.

Can negative hours be shown?

Yes. A negative balance is displayed when actual time after compensation is below target time; this is not a legal assessment.

How is an hourly value derived from monthly salary?

Monthly salary is divided by weekly hours times 52 divided by 12. A contractual divisor can differ.

How is time off calculated?

Outstanding positive hours are shown one-to-one. The governing agreement decides whether another ratio applies.

What does already compensated mean?

This time is deducted from the original balance. Enter only compensation actually recorded.

Does the calculator check the Working Time Act?

No. Statutory limits are explained only; no individual schedule is classified as lawful or unlawful.

Are breaks included?

Only if actual time was entered net of unpaid breaks. No break is deducted automatically.

How is rounding performed?

Time balances are calculated to the minute and displayed monetary amounts are rounded to cents.

Is compensation a net amount?

No. It is a model gross amount before tax and social contributions.

Limits

Limitations

  • The calculator checks neither instruction, tolerance, evidence nor exclusion periods.
  • Working-time limits and exceptions are not applied to the individual case.
