Explanation

How Leasing calculator works

The leasing calculator assesses vehicle leasing in two directions: it analyses an existing offer or estimates a rate in a model. Leasing is the granting of use and is deliberately shown separately from car financing.

Assess an offer

Leasing factorMonatsrate / Listenpreis × 100

A key figure for a rough offer comparison.

Total costsRaten + Sonderzahlung + Einmalkosten + Endkosten

All transparently entered cost components.

Estimate a rate

Model rate(Bemessungswert − Restwert − Sonderzahlung) / Laufzeit + Zinsanteil

Depreciation share plus a model interest share on the tied-up capital.

Practice

Practical examples

Leasing factor from an offer

List price EUR 40,000, monthly rate EUR 320, special payment EUR 4,000, 36 months, EUR 500 one-off costs, EUR 300 return costs.

Result: Leasing factor 0.80; total costs EUR 16,320 and an effective monthly burden of around EUR 453.33.

Model rate from the assessment value

Assessment value EUR 38,000, residual value EUR 20,000, 36 months, 4 % assumed interest, EUR 3,000 special payment.

Result: Model monthly rate of around EUR 503.33 from the depreciation share and the assumed interest.

Notes

Common mistakes

  • Only looked at the leasing factor

The special payment, term and mileage are ignored.

Include the total costs and the effective monthly burden.

  • Leasing confused with financing

At the end an acquisition of ownership is wrongly assumed.

Residual-value and mileage leasing usually end with a return, not with ownership.

  • End costs overlooked

Return or diminished-value costs are missing from the calculation.

Transparently enter the end costs that are possible under the contract.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference from car financing?

With leasing the use is granted, not ownership financed. At the end the vehicle is usually returned; no loan arises.

What is the leasing factor?

The monthly rate divided by the list price times 100. It makes offers roughly comparable but ignores the special payment, term and mileage.

What does the offer mode calculate?

From the monthly rate, special payment and additional costs, it derives the leasing factor, the total costs and the effective monthly burden of a specific offer.

What does the rate mode calculate?

A model rate from the assessment value, residual value, term, assumed interest and special payment. The result is an approximation, not an offer.

What is residual-value leasing?

The calculated residual value at the end of the contract determines the rate. If the real value differs, an additional payment or a credit may result.

What is mileage leasing?

The rate is based on an agreed annual mileage. Extra or unused kilometres are settled separately at the end.

How does the special payment work?

A higher special payment lowers the monthly rate but increases the initial burden. The effective monthly burden takes both into account.

Which costs arise at the end?

Depending on the contract, return, diminished-value or extra-mileage costs. The calculator only considers transparently entered end costs.

Is the assumed interest an effective annual rate?

No. The assumed interest in the rate mode is a model figure and not a contractually stated effective annual rate.

Is this a contract review?

No. The calculator does not review contract clauses and does not replace legal or tax advice.

Limits

Limitations

  • The model rate is an approximation and not a binding offer.
  • Contract clauses, residual-value risk and mileage settlement are not reviewed legally.
  • No legal or tax advice; the leasing contract is decisive.
