Terms of use Explanation
How Deadline Calculator works The calculator technically models the general civil-law calendar rules in sections 187–193 BGB: deadline type, nominal end and any final adjustment.
Event and beginning deadlines Event deadline Do not count the event day (§ 187 Abs. 1 BGB)For weeks, months and years the end is determined by the day that corresponds to the event day.
Beginning deadline Count the beginning day (§ 187 Abs. 2 BGB)For corresponding periods the end generally falls on the day before the corresponding date.
Technical guidance only Service, times, suspension, extensions, special procedural rules and the actual place can change the legal outcome.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions Is the result legally binding? No. It is technical guidance for the general rules in sections 187–193 BGB and not legal advice.
What is an event deadline? If an event occurs during a day, that day is excluded under section 187(1) BGB.
What is a beginning deadline? If the beginning of a day is decisive, that day counts under section 187(2) BGB.
What happens when a deadline ends on Saturday? For the covered declaration or performance, section 193 BGB substitutes the next working day for Saturday, Sunday or a general holiday.
Why is a German state required? Section 193 refers to a holiday recognised at the place of declaration or performance. The selected state controls state-wide holidays.
How is the 31st handled in a shorter month? If the decisive day is missing, section 188(3) BGB ends a monthly period on the month's last day.
How is 29 February handled? Leap years are processed exactly; if the corresponding February date is missing, the month-end rule applies.
Is adding a date the same as a BGB deadline? No. Addition is pure calendar arithmetic and applies neither a deadline type nor section 193.
How is remaining time calculated? It is the signed calendar difference between reference date and deadline and does not assess timely action.
Does this apply to tax, administrative or court deadlines? Not reliably. Individual fields of law can use special rules for service, notification, suspension or filing.
The model cannot replace review of the individual case. Municipal and only regional holidays are excluded. Sources
