Health insurance law changes contribution rules from 2027

The essentials

  1. For 2027, the statutory health insurance contribution ceiling will exceed the applicable amount under section 6 subsection 7 of SGB V by EUR 3600 a year.

  2. This law alone does not establish the absolute ceiling.

  3. From January 2028, certain spouses or registered partners covered by family insurance trigger a surcharge of 2.5 percentage points paid solely by the member; statutory exceptions apply.

What does this mean in practice?

The current net pay calculation supports 2026. It does not yet model the future ceiling or partner surcharge and does not guess an absolute ceiling. In the public service calculator this concerns employees’ net pay. The announcement does not set an individual health insurer’s supplementary contribution.
